Omer Arbel explains: “When we work on a production process, technological and practical considerations overlap with what we call the discovery of a material. Innovative materials and research lead to innovative products Thanks to advanced technology, Bocci lamps are both innovative and poetic, making it possible to create enchanted landscapes in the interiors they decorate. With Bocci, Omer Arbel has started a company that, over time, has specialized in making lights with innovative materials and processes. Alongside Bocci, Arbel has cultivated his passion for architecture with the same approach that characterizes his design products. In 2005, he founded, as art director, Bocci, a lighting brand that in a very short time has carved a niche out for itself in the international panorama of lighting design. A multifaceted personality, who has led several activities, some of which are very successful at an international level. Please note: Due to the handcrafted nature of this piece, the size, color depth, tonality, and both number & location of interior satellites will vary. Unless otherwise specified, one transformer is sent for every three pendants. Canopy attaches directly to a standard junction box. Installation to be done by certified electrician to ensure code compliance. All Bocci designs are developed, engineered, and fabricated in-house through an infrastructure calibrated to provide full control over technique, quality, and scale.īocci recommends mounting transformers remotely in a close, accessible and hidden location for ease of long term maintenance. Today, Bocci has a growing portfolio of contemporary design ranging from light installations through to furniture and electrical sockets. The company launched with one product, 14, which became an instant classic and remains a design staple and bestseller. In 2005, Bocci was founded in a red barn surrounded by hay fields, on the periphery of Vancouver, Canada. Omer Arbel's work has been exhibited in various museums around the world. His interdisciplinary practice spans multiple scales and cultural-economic contexts. Additional cable lengths are available in increments of 10' feet, up to a maximum of 100' feet in special applications.īocci Creative Director Omer Arbel explores the intrinsic mechanical, physical, and chemical qualities of materials as fundamental departure points for making work. Round, brushed-nickel canopies come standard with 10' feet of coaxial cable. 28.5 uses strain relief connections, which allow the pendant lengths to be adjusted on site. The result is an ambient chandelier or field of light. Each sphere contains an interior landscape of satellite shapes, including an opaque milk glass diffuser.Ģ8.5 is a random configuration of five 28 pendants hung from a round canopy The pendants are designed to hang in a random configuration at times clustering together and others trailing off. 28's are possible with infinite versatility in color compositions, sizes and shapes. The result is a distorted spherical shape with a composed collection of imploded inner shapes, one of which acts as a shade for a low voltage (12V, 20W) xenon or LED light source. Individual 28 pendants result from a complex glass blowing technique whereby air pressure is intermittently introduced into and then removed from a glass matrix which is intermittently heated and then rapidly cooled. Instead of designing form itself, here the intent was to design a system of making that yields form. 28 is an exploration of specificity in manufacturing.
